EP11 - -1 Week for XP2024: Unveiling the Unicorns Ecosystem

Hey there, fellow digital warriors! 🚀

Welcome back! As we gear up for #XP2024, let’s recap why evolving is crucial.

Evolution, unlike transformation, is a natural, sustainable change that adapts to new environments and behaviors. It’s the secret sauce to lasting success.

At XP2024, I’ll finally unveil how I created the Unicorns Ecosystem and why it evolved from the SW Craftsmanship Dojo® into a holistic behavioral-engineered model. To give you a teaser, imagine the picture of Michael Schumacher, a 7-time F1 world champion , and the team that made it possible.

Why Schumacher? My brother, Christian Brissoni , and his best friend, Simone Zucco , introduced me to the life of this incredible team 🏎️. Initially shocked by their performance-oriented approach, I soon understood their secret recipe for success. It’s nothing new for F1 or MotoGP factory teams, where performance is driven by both social and technological factors, pushing beyond failure.

The concept of ’testing everything beyond failure and then improving the bottleneck’ stuck with me. That’s why I fell in love with XP and TDD, which closely resemble this F1 approach in IT. However, understanding how F1 and MotoGP evolve their social environments around technology took years of experimentation.

The key difference? F1 and MotoGP leadership are performance-oriented, not process-oriented. This discovery led me to Prof. R. Westrum’s work on organizational cultures, and the concept of generative organizations . This mindset shift is crucial to stop transforming, and start evolving. Without it, all evolution steps will collapse. That’s why a good evolution should start with a dual-track effort:

1️⃣. Technical Excellence Program: support the upskill/reskill of your technical profiles with the SW Craftsmanship Dojo®.

2️⃣. Environment Reshape: redefine company DNA with a bold evolutionary OKR, creating environmental conditions for people to find the best way to evolve towards the new organizational stage.
